Who is this: Longevity

I’ve been working on this painting now for 52 separate sessions and I’m happy to say that I’m still motivated to continue.

I think it is hard many times for artists to stick with one project for so long. I know I’ve had projects that I’ve started and abandoned well into the process due to lack of interest or motivation. I think if we pick a subject matter in which we have an emotional attachment to then it’s easier to continue on it for a long time. Also I’m not burning myself out on it by doing marathon long session every day, granted I could work longer on this painting daily but I’m working on it.

It helps that I beak up my days on this painting with session at life drawing Saturday. If I had several projects going at once at could also break up my time on any one project when I’m feeling my motivation wain. But, there always comes a point when you don’t feel like continuing and the only thing that will get you through is willpower.

Today I worked on the mouth again, I’m not 100% sure that I’m done with it but I’m going to move on for now. I can always come back.
