Fingernails are one of the hardest things to paint and make them look authentic. Without careful study and focus on the drawing they can look odd.
There is so much tiny detail in a hand that I feel needs to be described in order for the whole of the hand to look believable. I’ve already spent several days on my right hand and I’m maybe half way done.
I just realized that I continually complain about the time I spend on this painting… I think it is time I change my thought process on important paintings. I know that great artists works months, even years, on one painting, why should I be any different?
