The still life I did yesterday didn’t have the impact that I wanted to achieve. I wanted something to entice people to the demo.
The last still life looked too technical and bland with just the white paper and black charcoal. Plus the setup was super boring just simple shapes. Although these kind of still life setups are perfect for learning to draw our surroundings in perspective with correct foreshortening and all that jazz.
This image is going to be an advertisement for a class so it really needs to stand out.
Ink on a gray toned paper with a chalk white for the highlights is very nice. Honestly I may try some life drawings with this kinda of setup. Maybe not the ink but definitely charcoal, the gray paper and a white.
I really drew this statue well, it’s pretty darn accurate.
Control of my hatching could be better to provide a more uniform organized look in the shadows.
Planning my shadow shapes ahead of time and the hatching is really important for a subject like this, especially with smooth surfaces.
