Again I’m working slowly on this portrait but I ended up smoothing out the surface of Jon Snow’s face too much.
I always need to be careful when I use brushes, my finger or a stump to move the charcoal around and fill in the interstices of the paper. If I do it too much I end up getting a surface like super smooth marble. That kind of look works well if it fit my motive but here it does not. I’m trying to depict the stone and hardness in Jon Snow. A toughness that was necessary in order for him to make it though the game of thrones.
Tomorrow I will have to rough him up again.

Tomorrow I will avoid using a brush, finger or stump on the drawing while continuing to instill some hard edges in Jon Snow’s face.
