I like painting dark still life but I’m getting really annoyed at having to watch the direction of my brush strokes. Because if I keep any of the brush strokes in the dark areas horizontal then the glare makes it impossible to see what I’m painting. I’m sure painters have solved this problem before me, I’m going to have to do some research on the subject.
Tonight’s painting was, like several of my latest paintings, of a still life thrown together on a whim. I will say it again, I need to find a subject and really submerse myself in it, rather then tossing off paintings with no more thought about them then just putting paint on the canvas accurately.
