Session #488, Work #465

I liked the spices so much in the last painting I did of them that I decided to paint them again tonight.

I have been experimenting with different mediums lately. I have tried a 50/50 mixture of linseed oil and gamsol, which I like for the beginning toning of the canvas and reductive start. I have also been trying Gamblin’s Neo Megilp and their Galkyd Gel, but I just can’t get into them. The idea is to change the viscosity of the paint to something more buttery but not loose any of its opacity, but what I have found is that the mediums just make everything too transparent. I think what I have decided is that I need to go with a paint that is just more buttery right out of the tube. I love Old Holland paints but there just way too stiff. I think I’m going to go with Williamsburg paints from now on, straight out of the tube, no mediums.
