I really pushed myself tonight to put the paint on thick and tried to be as expressive with the strokes as possible while keeping the drawing fairly accurate. It turned out very messy.
I think I really need to slow down with this type of painting. It would have gone much better if I was like John Singer Sargent and planned out each and every brush stroke like the whole entire painting depended on its success. So, one day this week I may do that. I’ll sit down a still life and really think about each brush stroke, plan it out, place it down with care, step back, judge its accuracy then adjust or plan the next. It could prove to be a very long painting but I’m sure it will turn out much better than this one.
