Self Portrait In Studio

Lately I have been doing a lot of thinking about subject matter that I want to focus on, so I find it fitting that I do a self portrait in studio tonight as a lot of my thoughts have been internal.

A few weeks back I came to the conclusion that what I wanted to do most was get better. Whatever that means. “Getting Better” is such a nebulous statement, it could mean anything. To be specific I want to be, eventually, a master draftsman and a master painter, most likely in charcoal and oil. But recently I have also realized that having the drive to achieve this lofty goal is not enough, I need a focus.

I have been pouring over images of great art through various online resources and saving any work that I find inspiring or amazing in the hopes that my collection will lead me to a realization of what particular subject matter I want to focus on most. So far I’m leaning toward figurative work, but I’m not 100% there and I will keep looking.

Here is a list of resources that I use to collect high resolution images, or I just them for inspiration.

If anyone has suggestions for online collections of high resolution work please comment.

I am an Artist and a programmer currently living in the amazing state of Washington. I have a passion for art, but I'm stubborn as hell with it. My day is complete only when I do some piece of art each day, no matter how small. "There was a dream that was Rome. You could only whisper it. Anything more than a whisper and it would vanish, it was so fragile."
