I’m very happy with this drawing of Sean Astin as Samwise Gamgee.
Of course after seeing the photos of the drawing I noticed some issues right away but I feel that I could work on a drawing forever, always trying to make it perfect. It may be more beneficial to work on starting new drawing and painting rather than working all the time on finishing.
As Robert Henri says. “The value of repeated studies of beginnings of a painting cannot be over-estimated. Those who cannot begin do not finish”
I started out the day with a whole bunch of gestures and one sheet of cross-contours also.
What went well?
Lots of drawing today, and a really nice drawing of Sean Astin as Samwise Gamgee
What didn’t go so well?
I need to remember to always take a photo of my work and see it on my phone before calling it finished. This process always exposes errors.
What did I learn and/or how can I do better?
Gestures and especially cross-contour drawings take a lot of willpower to complete. To be honest, they’re boring, but this is part of deliberate practice and improving my ability to stick with it. Not only am I training myself to be a better artists but I’m training my focus and willpower which may be the most important skill in our current time.
