After getting home late from dinner I asked Pattie to pick another item from her wall of collectibles.
I wouldn’t have picked the Taiper but it was a nice change of pace. I’m glad she picked it. I’m excited to fix all my mistakes with a second painting of it tomorrow.
Overview
I had Pattie pick from her wall of collectibles again. I would have never picked a stuffed animal. The fluffy hair seems like it would be a very difficult thing to paint. Not only that but this hair is super black. The painting has much more depth then this picture shows, the picture just looks like a black void of paint. Anyway, the painting didn’t take very long, we got home late at night from dinner so I wanted to get it done, I wasn’t really taking my time. Considering my rush, I’m pretty happy with the outcome.

How can I improve the drawing
Here yon can see the product of me being rushed. Drawing is not that good, especially since this subject is so simple. I’m going to say it again, I just need to take more time drawing and focus on getting it right.

How can I improve the values?
I really thought my values here would have been better. The shadows cast by the Taiper onto the white board are too dark. The tips of the feet are too light. The background is too light. The turn of the fur under the belly is too light. Seems like the only thing that is correct is the super black areas, but the photos are really not seeing the depth there. I blame this on how fast I was going. I will have to paint this little guy again tomorrow.
Edges
Not much focus on edges again.
Composition
I kept the composition simple and didn’t focus on it at all. The only thing I wanted to do was keep the entire figure in the painting.
Color
Not much of a focus on color here. I just recognized which areas were warm and which were cool and tried to keep them somewhat true.
