I wanted to take a break from Patrick’s painting today and work with some landscape ideas I’ve been having for a while now.
The practical part of the day was to get my sketch book out and find out what materials work best for making quick three color composition studies. Before this I spent about an hour research books on landscape painting and writing in a book I have planned maybe in the future.
Above is the notebook page and below are the cut out quick studies from the page.
Second page with a gesso ground, which I think worked better for applying the gouache paint. The other page without any gesso just soaked up the gouache and I had trouble covering even a small area.
