I’ve chosen a Princess Bride composition for the drawing and it only took a couple more thumbnails to get there.
My energy was waning today so I ended up with a shorter session but excitement for this composition study brought it back somewhat.
I honestly feel that this new process is what I should have been doing with these drawings all along. There is an energy I get from the process that I haven’t felt since my painting of Patrick.
It’s one of those moments when something just feels right, like I’m on the right path.

Warm-up
The normal 15 minute warm-up in graphite.

Clothed Modeled Drawing
I’ve never done well with the modeled drawings from The Natural Way to Draw book. I always get caught up in the surface rather than just focusing on how the form moves through space. I’ll also pick a subject that doesn’t have a ton of complex folds.

Daily Composition and Sketch
I really phoned this one in today. I need to stop doing that. Like Georges St-Pierre says in his book on The Way of the Fight. “Perfect practice instead of casual repetition.“

What went well, what was awesome! Celebrate It!
I’ve chosen a Princess Bride composition!
What needs work? What did you learn?
Work towards perfect practice not casual repetition.
How am I going to Optimize moving forward?
Any practice that I do daily I will remind myself of it’s purpose and recommit every day.
Nice, on all the aspects of this post. Glad you found a method which fires you up about your drawing. And nice re-commitment to practicing with purpose.
Thanks!!
