I must admit that I’m floundering a bit here as I’m playing with acrylic and it’s transparent properties.
I want colors with super high chroma fir the initial layers of acrylic as well as a depth in the transparent layers. Unfortunately I feel that I’m failing at both. I’m finding it very difficult to not paint exactly what I see because in this case what I’m painting is influenced by the photo but is enhanced. It’s a constant struggle of pushing color as far as I can but not too far that I lose form. In simple terms I look at a spot on the face and ask what is the purest pigment that I can use there without getting too far away from the value? At least that is what I should be asking myself…
