Pattie: Starting With the Darks

In areas where the surrounding values are very dark I find it easier to start with the darkest of them.

The reason for this is because it’s easy to contaminate these darker areas with values that are much too lite by just adding a little bit of a lighter color.

For today’s session I was painting a part of the shirt that was mostly in shadow and I even happened to barely graze a lighter color with my brush it would totally trow off the dark values that I needed and I would have to mix a new pile and clean my brush.

I guess the same is true with lighter areas, be careful with the opposite values.
