Every few sessions on a painting I have to revisit the fundamentals, in this case drawing, and focus hard on getting it right.
Drawing is the most important aspect when doing a representational portrait for me. I’m trying to capture some emotion in the face of the subject and to do that correctly I can’t let the drawing be off by more than a millimeter. So every few sessions I will do a deep comparison of the most important parts of the painting and make quadruple sure that the drawing is spot on. That was today, I didn’t get a lot done but what I did get done was completed at the best of my ability and I feel really good about that.
