I’m trying my best not to stroke the brush on the canvas, instead I use a frayed brush and meander it across the surface. It’s closer to real life this way.
And an under painting I want life and action to show through the later layers of oil paint and I can’t do that with contrived and controlled brush strokes. I want a mess of bright colors and strokes! Hopefully this will stand in as the energy beneath the skin that I see in Patrick.
