I spent this whole session painting more hair and trying to get the detail I wanted without going overboard.
I know the contemporary way to paint hair is a John Singer Sargent type approach where patches of hair is generalized with sweeping brush strokes, but I don’t want to do that. I also don’t want to render each individual hair. So I’m trying to strike a balance. In the future I may go back to a generalized approach for all my paintings but for now I want to learn how to deal with details in a way that Rembrandt did through his life.
