Patrick: Day One of the New Decade

Happy new year and new decade! For me today is much the same as yesterday but the hope for my best decade every is growing.

These days off have been great. I’ve been able to experiment with what it would be like if art was my full time career and I’ve learned a lot about myself. I’ve learned that art as a career will take a whole new level of commitment from me if I want to really succeed. I’ve found it difficult to avoid a lot of distraction with all the extra time in the day and to get my art started first thing. But, after starting art at 5am for the past two days I must say it feels wonderful to have that accomplishment warming my heart for the rest of the day.

Today, I worked on refining the drawing of Patrick’s legs and getting some initial layers down. I’m moving in a clock-wise pattern over his legs from the knee to the foot to his bottom leg then back to the knee. Giving each area about two days to dry before coming back to it. This way I can get some really good glazes over each area. So tomorrow I will be back to the knee.

What went well?

Drawing is almost perfect on the legs now.

What didn’t go so well?

I’m still working on more longevity while painting, for now I think I may be splitting my art time throughout the day. Painting for the main part then some sketching also.

What did I learn?

Keep constantly remembering the spark of inspiration that brought me to this painting and what I want to accomplish. It’s super easy for that original energy to get lost in such a long term painting.
