It was apparent from the first brush stroke that the white of the canvas was a bad idea.
The first color I mixed of the day was a skin tone that I know would work well, I’ve mixed similar many times before. But, I laid it next to the white of the canvas and the color looks completely wrong and different. I knew right away that the white of the canvas was overpowering my mixtures and blinding me to the actual color. The only course of action from here was to paint over the white with a nice gray. If this doesn’t work I may have to spend several sessions painting over the entire canvas with a uniform opaque gray and re-draw the whole scene. Basically start over.
