Patrick: Almost Done With Black

I’m working on the last bit of the couch that needs to get finished and soon I can put my tube of black away.

I try not to use too much black in my paintings. I want to see the colors in the shadows and challenge myself to mix the harmonies I see with anything but black. Besides Ultramarine blue, Alizarin and Burnt Umber make a super deep black anyway.

What went well?

This area is fairly simple and fun to work with. Lots of playing with strokes and shapes.

What didn’t go so well?

I started a bit later today so I”m not working until well into the afternoon which is not optimal for me.

What did I learn?

See the colors in black areas. In most cases I don’t think I really need black at all, it’s just easier and cheaper.

I am an Artist and a programmer currently living in the amazing state of Washington. I have a passion for art, but I'm stubborn as hell with it. My day is complete only when I do some piece of art each day, no matter how small. "There was a dream that was Rome. You could only whisper it. Anything more than a whisper and it would vanish, it was so fragile."
