Me and Kiddie: Finished
I’m not completely finished with this painting, just one small thing to do yet.

Me and Kiddie: Sweater and Jeans
I wasn’t feeling particularly motivated to paint today, I’m not sure why so I did the minimum with or on the sweater and jeans.

Me and Kiddie: Desk Details
I finished up the details on the monitor and rushed the plaque on my desk.

Me and Kiddie: Painting a Monitor
I’m actually painting the icons and program that is showing on my monitor.

Me and Kiddie: More Hand, More Sweater Work
I finished up my hand during this session and started moving my way up my arm refining the sweater a bit more.

Me and Kiddie: Refining My Hand
I spent this session refining details on my hand. I take extra care in getting this right.

Me and Kiddie: Desk Stuff Again
I spent another hour painting the items on my desk and keeping true to the detail.

Me and Kiddie: Desk Stuff
I spent this session painting the collection of stuff on my desk.

Me and Kiddie: Kiddie Finished, Maybe
I think I have finished Kiddie, I still have to put whiskers on him after the paint is fully dry though.

Me and Kiddie: Edges In Fur
As I’m painting Kiddie’s fur I like how it looks but when I take a photo of it I think the edges are too sharp.

Me and Kiddie: Rendering Fur
I’m working on the other half of Kiddie’s face today trying to faithfully render fur.

Me and Kiddie: Kiddie Face Details
We are back home after a long vacation and I’m still motivated by this painting. Today I paint fur.

Me and Kiddie: More Sweater Texture
Before we go on vacation for a week, I’m working on the sweater texture of this painting.

Me and Kiddie: Painting Sweater Texture
After a long day of errands and Christmas dinner with friends I’m painting sweater texture.

Me and Kiddie: Texture in Clothing is Hard
I’m finding it very difficult to express the texture in the sweater I’m wearing.

Me and Kiddie: More Refinement
I’m working out from my face now refining small patches of the painting and all the while thinking of texture.

Me and Kiddie: Refining the Portrait
I’m getting more detailed with my portrait this time on the light side of my face.

Me and Kiddie: Detail Work
Most of all the block-in is done so now I’m going back into each area with detail.

Me and Kiddie: Giving Myself a Hand
I spent an hour just painting my hand.

Me and Kiddie: More Blocking in
I’m basically just filling in some general color and values for areas now, no details just an under layer of paint.

Me and Kiddie: Background Elements
For this session I’m working on all of the background items, just giving them a basic blockin.

Me and Kiddie: More Sweater Blockin
I spent more time just blocking in the sweater I’m wearing.

Me and Kiddie: Sweater Blockin
We had a long day away from home today and I was super tired when I started painting at 10pm, so I chose something easy.

Me and Kiddie: Refining Shadows
The painting doesn’t look like it changed much from last session, I’m improving on some shadow areas around my portrait.

Me and Kiddie: Fabric
I’m painting the pull-over jacket that is draped over the chair I’m sitting in.

Me and Kiddie: Background and Texture
Thanks to Andrew Wyeth I’m paying attention to the smallest details even in the background.

Me and Kiddie:Texture In Oil Paint
As I’m painting Kiddie I’m trying to create texture in oil paint and I’m not sure how to achieve what I want.

Me and Kiddie: Painting Kiddie
For this session I started painting Kiddie. He is very dear to me so I want to get his likeness correct.

Me and Kiddie: Starting on Clothing
As I block in the clothing I’m thinking about the textures in Andrew Wyeth’s paintings.

Me and Kiddie: Wyeth Influence
After visiting the Seattle Art Museum Andrew Wyeth retrospective I’m highly influenced by my most favorite artist.

Me and Kiddie: More Portrait Work
I worked on the other half of my face today and was having fun with all the colors.

Me and Kiddie: Drawing Done, Beginning Painting
Now the fun part begins. I finished off refining the drawing for this painting and now I go straight into detail with oil.

Me and Kiddie: Drawing Refinement
This may be the most important part of the painting. If the drawing isn’t accurate it will undermine any other work I do.

Me and Kiddie: Starting the Drawing
Ok it’s time to admit that I feel like I’m cheating here.

Me and Kiddie: Photos and Gesso of Paper
I’m starting a new painting and I have a lot of motivation for something new. My photos and a subject that is meaningful.
