impermanence

Impermanence

I started this painting while I was waiting for an order of much bigger canvases to come in. I didn’t have much plan for it other than to kick off a commitment to figure painting for a long while.

That being said, I learned that this size of canvas is just way too small for what I want to do for figure paintings. I’ve done very small figure paintings in the past, I could get out the tiny brushes again, but not this time.

I intentionally left the painting rough. Smoothing it all out would not have adjusted the message much more. A message of quiet subdued contemplation of the impermanence of life.
