Open Studio Sunday

Today’s open studio session went well. Hipbone open studio was closed on Wednesday and Saturday so I was thankful that a last Sunday of the month session was in place.

As always I start with my warmup page. It seems like its been too long since I have done a warmup for a drawing session.

Open studio Sunday: 1.5 minute gesutres
1.5 minute gestures

Gestures are still a weak point in my art skills. I have marked a day of the week that should be doing gesture practice but I have failed to follow through weekly.

These 5 minute poses went very well, I’m happy that I was able to get such accurate proportion in so little time.

Full frontal poses are very difficult, probably the most difficult pose to draw. Luckily the model was using a stick and twisting her legs a bit, or else it would have been even harder.

Another difficult pose to draw here. I knew right away that if I didn’t measure head length that I would get the height wrong. Unfortunately I still got the height incorrect and ended up expanding the figure the further I went down the body. I’m sure it was due to the head length measurements falling on parts of her body that are not easily marked.

This one went very well, I just wish I had more time.

Ok, I’m not very happy with this portrait at all. I spent 30 minute on this, struggling the whole time. Portrait are another week point in my artistic skills. I’m sure if I had more time at the open studio I could have drawn her portrait much better, but I should at least get more of the face done and accurate in 30 minutes.
