I had a nice and relaxing morning of art practice on my birthday!
Warm-up and DrawABox exercises
Back to charcoal on my warm-up today. I’m really happy with the ellipses at the top I managed to keep them fairly clean and inside of their planes all without resting my hand on the page while standing.
Another fun box drawing exercise! I love how this one really forces you to think spatially.
Steve Huston Form Exercise
Honestly I’m just drawing the figures here and not worrying as much on the contour lines to describe the form.
One Minute Gestures
I had some fun moving between different mediums for my gestures and trying to change up the size of each figure so that I don’t get comfortable with only one size of drawing the figure.
I think I liked the ball point pen the most.
I looked back to see when I started doing gestures regularly this year. Back at the beginning of March and I can see some real improvements.
Daily Composition and Daily Sketch
I drew my easel and tray setup, this is my work horse and I use it for almost everything I do. It probably cost me a total of $100 and has lasted for close to 7 years now.
The drawing is of a very overweight woman walking back into her house after getting the mail. I remembered her after riding by her on my bike yesterday.
What went well?
A very relaxing morning of art on my birthday!
What needs work?
I’m fascinated with finding some great modern cello music and it’s distracting me during my art time.
What did I learn?
The ball point pen and graphite are much more fluid to draw with than charcoal pencils which have much more friction when scratching over the page.
