I find myself running out of things to write about as this painting is progressing slowly.
As I work through this painting a little bit at a time I’m thinking about texture. Well, I’m thinking about a lot of things, but in addition to drawing, value and color I’m also considering texture. When I move from skin to hair I use the brush in different ways making different types of strokes to try and get the transition in textures.
It’s very challenging for some textures especially the shirt in this painting as it is a very tight corduroy striped texture and I’m going to have to try several techniques to try and reproduce it without painting every line.
