I’m not really sure what is going on but I’m really struggling to paint the live model well. Before my next session, I’m going to have to give it some thought and make a change.
Yesterday’s session was the same. I was struggling very bad with my first painting then I wiped it out and started again. But at least in yesterday’s session, the second painting got a bit better. Today’s session at Gage Academy didn’t go well for the first or second attempt.
This painting started out well, I thought the drawing I was doing was looking good but as soon as I started adding in blocks of value it all went down hill from there. My first thought is that I don’t have a clear direction or step by step process to work through with each painting. I kind of just do what I feel like. Sometimes I focus on the shadow area first, and sometimes I start on the light area.
Well, one thing is for sure, I need to make a change when painting from the live model so I don’t always come away from these sessions feeling defeated.
