Life Drawing Male Model

So these drawing turned out really well. I’m thinking that maybe drawing a male model is the reason the drawings went so well. Or it could be that the male model was older.

I have had so many session drawing young women, which I know for a fact is much more difficult than an aged person. Women in general have more graceful curves that are really hard to match and when a person is young there are not very many landmarks to work with, just a lot of perfect skin.

It’s interesting here, I can see that I progressed nicely with these gestures getting better with each one as I warmed up. It seem that even if I do a warmup page I still need some time to get going with a few gestures.

I started drawing a bit more loose, yet at the same time more accurately. It’s hard to explain but I wasn’t worried too much about  perfect lines, but more on the placement of the lines for proportion, I was also thinking about line weight. Varying the line weight definitely makes for a more interesting drawing.

Sigh… Portraits area still difficult for me. I just need to work on them more. The male model was fully clothed for this pose so I focused on his head.

This was quite a good pose the model looked as though he was in pain, lit with high contrast and on a red sheet. It would have made for an interesting painting.

My last drawing was the best of the night.
