I have had a wonderful time at the Hipbone Open Studio these past 10 months but alas we are moving to what I’m hoping will be a much better place for us. I’m actually surprised that it has been 10 months, my first session was back in June 2015, and honestly the time has flown. You know what they say when your having fun…
If you want to see just how much I’ve improved check out my first session at Hipbone Open studio back in June here.

I think I ended on a good note, most if not all of these drawings are good.

Ok, yeah, my gestures STILL need a bunch of work…

I’m very proud of the center drawing here, I was able to get the whole figure down in 5 minutes with good proportion, and for a standing pose that is one of the hardest.

If I only had an hour on this drawing it would have been a keeper I think.

Here is a good example of seeing a large flaw in a drawing and not being afraid to erase and try again. Most of the top of the figure was tilted too far left, she looked as if she was going to topple over so I erased the head and torso and drew it a second time. Like always, if you draw or paint anything more than once it’s almost always better the subsequent times.

I enjoyed focusing on the mid section here, I had just been studying the anatomy of the thigh the past two days so I wanted to try and put it to use. Unfortunately this model wasn’t super lean so I couldn’t see many indications of muscles in the thigh except for those present on the contour, and in the knee. But, I had a lot of fun with the shadow shapes and working on better ways to model the form in space.

I switched to a harder charcoal pencil for this drawing and it just wasn’t putting down enough material on the page so it was taking longer to model the form. I’m very happy with the face and the head but the forms on the back could be better. It would be a wonderful long drawing on studying the back though.
Wow! That truly IS a difference. It’s almost like two different artists created those drawings.
Well done! I’m glad you had something that was positive to take away from our time in Oregon.
