Life Drawing: Gary

I sat closer to the model today because I wanted to see the subtleties of color in the models skin. I definitely saw more color but I’m not sure I captured it.

It was nice to work in a broken color “puzzle piece” method, starting at one point on the face and working out from there. My mind was in a good spot and I was able to keep focus to make the method work. I’m happy with how I worked but not the end product though. I think I was working much too small to be able to refine the model well, but if I worked bigger I don’t think I would get as much done in the time. Next time I will try and use this method but I think I will paint a bit larger and just focus on the portrait.
