Life Drawing, Artist as Model

This morning the regularly scheduled model didn’t show. But one of the artists their was gracious enough to stand in as he also modeled, quite well in fact. I felt bad that he had to take time away from his art to model for us, but I enjoyed drawing the artist as model.

I received a couple comments during the session about my drawings which was nice. It’s always great for someone, anyone to comment favorably on your work, especially another artist. The problem is that I’m always online looking at artists from around the world produce amazing works, either in drawing or painting and I enviably compare my work to theirs. Needless to say I have a long way to go. I’m happy with my progress, I’m happy with my drawings today of the artist as model, but it’s always good to have perspective.

In these cases I’m reminded of certain TV talent shows where the singers are auditioning and they feel that their singing skills are top notch and ready for the big time, but then their jolted harshly back to reality. I’m sure their family has encouraged them and always given them compliments on their craft and somewhere along the way they lost perspective.
