When blocking in large areas of a painting it always seems to get awkward.

With gouache I continue to oscillate between detail and big blocks of color. Most of the artists that I see doing gouache tend to work in big patches of pure color. Working that way is rather striking and beautiful, but I think I prefer a more detailed method.

Of course I’m figuring this out after reviewing the photos from this session.
