For this session I started painting Kiddie. He is very dear to me so I want to get his likeness correct.
I believe that I will have to redo his eyes a bit I think they are a bit off. I may have to compare what I have painted with the photo using Photoshop to see what the difference is.
Normally when there is a problem with likeness it is all about the drawing but I’ve only done one other painting of an animal before so I’m not totally sure.
I think if you put some effort into the detail of the fur like Wyeth does with clothing, you will see the strong comparison. Kiddy is so soft, like Sullivan’s fur in Monster’s Inc. You should try painting with Kiddy in your lap so you can see the detail of his fur up close…
