Me and Kiddie: Drawing Done, Beginning Painting

Now the fun part begins. I finished off refining the drawing for this painting and now I go straight into detail with oil.

Many artists and teachers like to fill the entire canvas with a basic block in or under painting. But for this painting I’m going right for detail at the start.I briefly contemplated filling in all the darker areas of the painting first but too often that turns into mindless work and I end up not focusing on what I’m doing. With starting in detail right away I can stay focused throughout the painting session.

But the most important reason for starting like this is because I enjoy it. I’ve been having some issues with motivation lately so anything I can do to help keep me in the seat and painting longer is best.
