Jon Snow Drawing

I started the Jon Snow drawing today and this time I began with a structural method straight out of Russia.

Fundamentals of Drawing by V. A. Mogilevtsev is the book and the process taught in it will work perfectly with my motive for Jon Snow. I want this portrait to be very structural, almost like Jon is carved out of stone.

Here is where I stopped on the drawing for today.

Here is my setup and my start on the drawing after I spent about an hour studying his face and analyzing the structure with simple planes.

The start is exactly how the book instructs to start a drawing and the only guides I was using at this stage was a vertical and horizontal 50% divider over the image and drawing.

I really took my time with the stage below, focusing on trying to get all the major shapes placed and close as I could. My focus really paid off.

I brought my drawing at the above stage into Photoshop and compared it with the image and I had to celebrate for a bit because all my lines were almost perfect.

One Minute Gestures

The one minute gestures exercise from The Natural Way to Draw has been a staple of the book and one that I look forward to every week. But I changed up my schedule today and did all my practice at the end of the day. It turns out that I don’t have a lot of energy later in the day. I must get all my art done early in the day while my energy is the highest.

Try and get all my art done early in the day.

How am I going to Optimize moving forward?

I’ll try and plan my practice and performance early and stick to a schedule so that I can get them both in before work, exercise or anything else.
