Influenced by Comic Book Art

I began shading in the Pokemon drawing this morning which is trying to be heavily influenced by comic book art.

Creating and illustration like this is very new for me and I’m looking at all kinds of art to help me. First I started with Pokemon art, then moved to Manga art, now I’m looking at pencil work from comic books.

Pokemon Drawing

Here is a great example of the pencil work that I’m trying to come somewhat close to. Regardless of how this drawing will end up I’m learning a ton.

The challenges continue with the 250 box challenge. Not too bad today but I’m still lacking control on the freehand lines.

Memory Gestures

This is the memory gestures exercise from The Natural Way to Draw. It’s a wonderful exercise for training your visual memory. The last page figures at the bottom were not done from memory though.

Daily Composition and Sketch

I’m using a pencil for these drawings before I ink them now. I guess this has been influenced by comic book art also. On the right is my french press and on the left is my neighbor in his truck.

What went well, what was awesome! Celebrate It!

A great day of art!

What needs work? What did you learn?

I’m working on distractions all the time and today they got the best of me.

How am I going to Optimize moving forward?

I’ll have to recommit to asking myself “what’s important now” anytime I get pulled away.

I am an Artist and a programmer currently living in the amazing state of Washington. I have a passion for art, but I'm stubborn as hell with it. My day is complete only when I do some piece of art each day, no matter how small. "There was a dream that was Rome. You could only whisper it. Anything more than a whisper and it would vanish, it was so fragile."
