After the short art session last night I was determined to get some real time in today. After quite a bit of time coming up with an interesting composition I ended up with a painting that I’m happy with called “Hatched”.
I was reviewing my average monthly time spent on art and I noticed that in January my time spent was much higher than December or February. Once I looked at all the subject matter throughout that month I noticed that I spent a lot of time on doing still life paintings, and each still life painting I did was longer sessions.
It seems obvious, now that I think about it, that I can spend more time on still life each month. A still life is easy to setup, it doesn’t depend on the weather, I can sit comfortably for hours in front of it and I don’t have to pay the model. But the draw back to still life is that most of the time it can get quite boring, even the paintings themselves can be boring.
My most important goal though is learning and the best way to do that is to have my butt in the seat working for as many hours as I can daily. It’s that simple, if you want to get better at something you work hard on it for long hours.
Regardless of all that, tonights painting was a joy to paint and the hours flew by.
