Today’s experiment didn’t go well at all.
I can’t remember the last time I used vine charcoal for shading and my lack of practice really shows in this drawing. The purpose of this drawing today was just to familiarize myself with the materials a bit and see if I can get some shading to work. Not only did I make the figure too small but I couldn’t seem to get the charcoal down well.
I’m not sure if this is something that I’m going to continue to practice as I fell that I should be working more in paint. Considering that oil paint is going to be the medium in which I create my finished works in I feel I should be honing that skill more. I’m not totally convinced that working in charcoal improves the same skills as when I’m working with brush and paint.
