For this life drawing session I focused on starts.
The first 20 minutes or so of a figure drawing/painting is the most crucial. If you can get an accurate gesture and accurate structure within the first 20 minutes then the rest of the figure drawing is just cake. Most of my bad figure drawing are bad because the foundation of the drawing wasn’t well done.
The frustrating part of this is that I’m not making any finished work and not many people respond to short drawings of a purely academic purpose. It’s much like exercising though, you do it every day without seeing any results because the improvement is small, it just takes time for all the small daily improvements to be noticeable.
I’m not sure how long I will be working on fundamentals, it could be a while….
