I’m really taking my time with this figure in oil continued from yesterday. It has been a long time since I’ve had a second session with a painting and I still have a ton of motivation to continue working on it. I hope to finish it in one more session but if it goes longer then that is fine.
I think the week of time that I spent on finding the materials that worked best for me has really helped. Having materials that I’m comfortable with keeps me at my easel longer with the energy I need to turn out quality work. In fact, for these last two session I never left my seat, I painted for 2 hours straight.
I corrected the drawing for this painting from yesterdays comparison photos. I was careful to note the places where my drawing was incorrect. This is important information as I seem to always lose accuracy the further I move from the head. This is especially true with standing figures.

Here is something interesting I’ve noticed with my paintings. The better the painting looks, in person, the more disappointed I am with the photo. On the other hand I have had some paintings that don’t look very good in person yet the photo looks better. Personally I would rather be disappointed with the photo, it seems to be a good indication that I’m headed in the correct direction.
