Figure Drawing from Photo

Drawing from photo is definitely not as exciting as drawing from life. I’m struggling with getting motivated and finding a subject matter that I want to engross myself in so much that 3 hour sessions a day are no problem. But, I haven’t found that excitement yet.

Today was valentines day so I spent all day focusing on my wife and only needed to get 30 minutes of drawing done. But, I wanted to see if I could get as excited about drawing a figure from photo as I was when drawing the figure from life. Unfortunately the excitement wasn’t there.

What is interesting is that when drawing from life even if the pose is terrible or the model is bad, it’s still interesting or challenging or I don’t know what, but I still have an excitement from it. Drawing from photo though is much different. No matter how amazing the model or pose, I’m still slogging through it. I’m going to have to figure out something, hopefully soon, but I’ll keep working at it every day.

I am an Artist and a programmer currently living in the amazing state of Washington. I have a passion for art, but I'm stubborn as hell with it. My day is complete only when I do some piece of art each day, no matter how small. "There was a dream that was Rome. You could only whisper it. Anything more than a whisper and it would vanish, it was so fragile."
