I think I learned a lot today at life drawing. Or maybe it was just an affirmation of previous things learned but it was a good session.
I arrived late and my first drawing was only 12 minutes long, but I think it was a good start. With a focus on line, proportion and letting the visuals flow through my mind I was able to complete the whole drawing in half the normal time but the accuracy was no good. My second drawing was terrible and reaffirmed that this way of building up value is no good with these materials and requires too much time to do correctly.
My third drawing, which took over an hour, was the best. The whole thing is linear, even the shading is made up of small lines and I loved it. This method looks so much more interesting to me. There is a complexity woven into a seemingly simple drawing, I feel that it can be enjoyed from afar or from close up. Of course this took much more time to complete as I was really focusing and taking my time.
Maybe I will invest in some nice paper and work drawings like this in the future.
