Do Something!

Don’t just read this post. Don’t just watch the video. Don’t just talk, think or dream. Do something! The doing is what really matters.

I was really influenced by Jocko Willink and a quote from his book Discipline Equals Freedom. I was introduced to Jocko from Optmize.me where Brian Johnson has reviewed his book and pulled out some very salient ideas.

The one Idea that resonated with me most was titled “DO”. Here is a direct quote from Jocko’s book.

“Don’t just read this book.
Don’t just listen to the podcast.
Don’t just watch videos online.

Don’t just take notes.
Don’t just study them.
Don’t just share them with your friends.

Don’t just plan.
Don’t just mark your calendar.
Don’t just ‘get motivated.’

Don’t just talk.
Don’t just think.
Don’t just dream.

No. None of that matters.

The only thing that matters is that you actually do.

SO:

DO.”

Jocko Willink from Discipline Equals Freedom

This resonates with me well because I follow the wisdom daily. I try not to let fear, preconceptions, other artists, time or anything keep me from completing even a little bit in art every day.

I’m a creator. I create. I DO Something!

Warm-up

The normal 15 minute warm-up in graphite.

Head Gestures

It’s been a while since I’ve done the one minutes head gestures exercise from the The Natural Way to Draw book so I’m a bit rusty. It didn’t help that my focus wasn’t as on point as it normally is. Win or learn!

Head Gestures

What went well, what was awesome! Celebrate It!

I was able to create some art today and I’m only a few days away from finishing the Pocahontas drawing. Plus I did something! I moved forward even a little bit.

What needs work? What did you learn?

I would like to get my focus back on point.

How am I going to Optimize moving forward?

Tomorrow I will commit to not having an audio book playing while drawing and focus deeply.
