William Wendt (1865-1946) was an American landscape painter. He was called the “Dean of Southern California landscape painters.
Working on drawing and following Anthony Ryder’s book still. The “envelope” and the “block-in” are progressing very naturally, I’m liking this process more and more.
Thanks to Anthony Ryder and his book “The artist’s complete guide to figure drawing” I had a great time drawing today and I was happy…
More detailed drawing today. I was confident and wanted to take the drawing further.
4 drawings tonight, all with greater success.
Two drawings tonight. Didn’t get much sleep so I couldn’t focus too long on the drawings cause I was so tired.
Finished one drawing tonight and started another. Although I have already wiped that second one out. Drawing, drawing, drawing, I can’t do enough of it.
Wonderful hike today. One hour from Seattle off of I-90 exit 45 is Bandera Mountain.
Tired after a wonderful hike today, I just focused on the very basics of drawing. I will plan to continue this tomorrow.
Jeremy Lipking is the same age as me. His paintings are amazing, I wonder if I had not stopped if I could be painting as…
Like I said last painting, I’m going to do nothing but draw for the next few painting. This one was awful again.
I found Karin Jurick through a random link online. She did a series called “Bust-ed” consisting of 100 faces from mug shots. The paintings are…
The influence of illustration can bee seen in John White Alexanders painting. Their smooth and flowing compositions are quite relaxing.
Simply amazing. Jeremy Mann is a great example of an artist whose skills I would love to have and I’m current working towards.
Jack Vettriano’s provocative subject and subdued lighting indicates a underlying narrative to each painting, but my real love for these paintings is the way he simplifies the forms masterfully.
Thanks to my later years in college I have a soft spot for 19th century american painters.
Some painting nights are a huge disappointment. Tonight was one of them…
I had my wife pick the subject again. I must say, if she picked a different article every day on her shelf of keepsakes I…
The second half of my orange in the coffee cup painting.
So I decided to try some reflections, and since I like coffee, a coffee cup seemed to be appropriate.
I painted the orange for a second time. This is a fun subject, the bright colors make me crazy because now I want to try…
After a bad day lets paint something easy I thought. Oranges seem easy, right?
I painted the Taiper for a second time. I split up my canvas and did the Taiper 4 times.
After getting home late from dinner I asked Pattie to pick another item from her wall of collectibles.
I painted the Beluga statue for the second time. This time I zoomed into the statue much further and focused on drawing and major shapes.
Joaquín Sorolla, one of the great painters from Spain. His work has always amazed me.
Mostly known for his images of cakes but I really liked his landscapes.
Pattie’s favorite animal in all the world is the Beluga whale and today I painted a figurine of hers that features this majestic creature.
I found Joseph Alleman online yesterday his work captures breathtaking landscapes with such simple virtuosity.
I finished up yesterday’s dolphin painting and did a second simple painting of an apple. Lots of fun today.
I can’t think of a better place to store art that influences me than here on my blog. This post is all about the amazing…
I had to stop this painting early.
After a great day hiking I was really excited to begin another painting, but my energy for this painting began to dwindle early on.
Today’s hike was on three of the Cougar Mountain trails.
Back to the Buddha keepsake today for another oil painting.
Double Oh Seven painting. I think this is the best one yet, but far from where I want to be.
This was a painting where I focused completely on drawing as accurately as possible and nothing else.
So after last nights painting I realized that the largest problem for me as an artist currently is my drawing.
Do you stop and listen?
After today’s painting I feel like I need a reminder of who I was as an artist before I stopped painting over 5 years ago.
New Site layout and UI.
So I did several things different for this painting beside painting something different.
Fourth painting. This painting was going so well, then it fell apart close to the end.
Possible new painting for the future, thanks to the wonderful wilderness here in Washington.
Third painting. This one didn’t go as well as the second.
So, after the first painting I tried to learn from my mistakes and take my time drawing and working on the value.
This may be one of the biggest steps I’ve ever taken in all my life. A true commitment to art making daily.
I found this image on tumblr that led me to an artist on deviant art. Some really great stuff there.
