Constant Check In With Your Motive

Life and art are magnificently connected and I’m always happy when I find yet another correlation between the two.

My life has changed for the better once I got clear on my WHY and what fires me up to work so hard every day. But, even though it’s a huge part of my life, I need a daily reminder of the reason for getting up at 4am every morning and filling every second of the day with the best of me.

Creating a piece of art is the same. When we create a piece of art we establish a WHY, a MOTIVE, a GOAL and constantly check in with that motive. We need a daily reminder of why we are working so hard on each piece because it’s easy to get distracted and jump down rabbit holes.

What is your WHY? How can you journal about it daily and remind yourself of your big purpose in life?

Then do it!

I spent more time on Snape’s face, AGAIN. I wasn’t convinced that it had the likeness down. But Pattie helped me with that.

For the next sessions I’m going to be filling in the rest of the piece and focusing on getting this thing done.

Extended Gesture Study

Today’s exercise from the The Natural Way to Draw book is the extended gesture study. I’ve always had a hard time with the gesture of the guy in this image so I wanted to work for 30 minutes on the figure today and get it right.

What needs work? What did you learn?

Constant reminder of why I’m spending so much time on each piece.

How am I going to Optimize moving forward?

I’m right now writing down why I”m working on Snape and the purpose behind this drawing. Tomorrow I”m going to commit to that again.
