Christmas Landscape 4 and 5

I’ve finished the fourth painting and started on the fifth. It’s a very productive day!

What went well?

One painting finished and another started. I’m also going to do some sketching today for fundamentals work.

What didn’t go so well?

I went to the art store yesterday and purchased some spray varnish for these paintings to protect them. Not only did it smell horrible, I felt like my brain was screaming, looking at the open studio painting I tested it on I hated the results. The painting went from a wonderful matte finish to all kinds of glare that made it hard to see. I’m glad I didn’t use it on one of these paintings and tested it on something less important.

What did I learn?

Never use spray varnish on gouache paintings. Just frame them under glass to protect them.
