Today was a relaxing and easy day as I focused on art and recovery by drawing early and keeping my workout easy.
This week I’m testing how my sleep will change if I cut my workouts down to the bare minimum and take as much time as I can throughout the day meditating.
Stress comes in three major forms: physical, mental and nutritional. I’m trying to figure out which one is keeping me from being my best self. I really hope I’m just going too hard on my workouts because the next test is taking a long fast to rule out nutrition. That will be super hard for me.
Anyway, one thing I do know that definitely causes me stress is not accomplishing something in my art every day. This was easy though, my weekend mornings are the most focused time I have to dedicate to my craft.
The tyrannosaurus is coming along wonderfully. After last posts I was able to see the subtle changes needed in the crown of his/her head to make the form move through space. The only thing I feel I really need to do though is block in some of the basic planes of the rest of the head to have a more accurate comparison of what is already finished. There is too much white and it’s hard to judge issues working on details alone.

Warm-up and DrawABox exercises
The normal 15 minute warm-up in graphite.

The challenges continue with the 250 box challenge. Yikes this sheet of boxes are much worse than yesterday. I would love to tell you why my performance here was so poor, but I don’t know.

One Minute Gestures
The next schedule of exercises from The Natural Way to Draw is studying drapery but we just washed our newly purchased white table cloths after my art session. Instead I decided to fill the time with gestures. It’s always wonderful practice for seeing the whole figure in basic shapes.
Daily Composition and Sketch
A very ugly quick sketch of my headphones but I feel I made up for it with the sketch of two boys looking down from a rock wall they climbed.

What went well, what was awesome! Celebrate It!
I’ve had a wonderfully relaxing day while focusing on art and recovery!
What needs work? What did you learn?
Get the big shapes done and blocked in first before starting on details.
How am I going to Optimize moving forward?
Tomorrow I’m going to focus on the big shapes of the rest of the tyrannosaurus and putting in some simple shades.
