Ann: Beginning the Awkward Stages

The second layer of oil on this painting is going well but regardless there is always an awkward look at this stage.

In this stage of the painting I’m thinking more about value and drawing than chroma. If I can get the values down on these first few layers the rest becomes a lot of fun adding texture, detail and interest with color.

I also got some drawing done today with a full art session.

What went well?

I was able to hit my goal of art time today. 3+ hours.

What didn’t go so well?

I’m still struggling with some direction on Ann’s painting. I have ideas of what I want to achieve but I’m lacking the visual language right now to make it happen.

What did I learn and/or how can I do better?

Keep up the contour and the gesture, I’m learning a lot here and it’s important for my growth.
