A Whole Lot of Smoke

Today’s research into the next Fandom Fitness drawing has resulted in a whole lot of smoke and that is exactly what I see when I look outside.

We’re stuck in the apartment this weekend. With all the fires in California, Oregon and Washington it’s too unhealthy to go outside. I figured that I could get a lot accomplished on art this weekend but unfortunately I have a ton of images that have not amounted to anything. Nothing is really sticking yet. Hopefully after a good night of sleep I can see it all with a new eye tomorrow.

The normal 15 minute warm-up in graphite.

Short Drapery Study

Another drapery study from The Natural Way to Draw and this time I’m slowing down and learning as much as I can with careful analysis.

Daily Composition and Sketch

I’m keeping these sketches quick, 15 minutes max, and when the timer went off today I didn’t have time to add ink. I spent most of my time carefully constructing the figure of a woman waiting at the lab out of simple shapes. I only started to add details in graphite before I stopped.

What went well, what was awesome! Celebrate It!

I spent a lot of time researching today and keeping to my commitment of doing the best that I can for each of these drawings even though I ended up with a whole lot of smoke.

What needs work? What did you learn?

Maybe organizing a motive or idea before looking for imagery would help me to commit to a composition.

How am I going to Optimize moving forward?

Tomorrow I’m going to write down my ideas for the next Fandom Fitness drawing and see if I can pull something out of the images I already have.
