4093: Mother Nature Large Day 4

It’s really funny how much you can get done by going slow . I know that sounds counterintuitive, but when you’re working on something that you don’t exactly know how to do and you’re figuring it out along the way it really pays off to slow down and think about it while you’re creating stuff.

When you do this, you give your brain time to catch up with all the information and you put down more correct stuff rather than incorrect stuff. That’s what results in the speed.

Another thing that was super helpful, was breaking a complexity down. If there’s something that you don’t know how to paint it’s best to break it down into its component parts. Instead of jumping right to the canvas with oil paint first find some references that are similar to what you’re thinking. Then after that, focus on just drawing and getting the drawing clear. Then get your values clear don’t worry about color yet just figure it out in black-and-white as well. After all that then you can figure out some colors. And finally, you can take all that you’ve learned to the canvas with Paint.

Of course I’m doing all this digitally because it’s just easier and a lot of ways for idea creation.
