4086: Empowered Day 6

It feels really good to be back to doing nothing for my art time, but strictly painting. Today’s session was spent completely on the head for the empowered figure and as I work, I feel the need to let this layer dry and continue in with multiple layers of glazing to increase the depth of the paint and to adjust the colors to a bit more saturated in areas.

I really don’t like when skin tones become one gradation of the same color. That’s not how skin works. I like to be able to build in all kinds of colors underneath the skin and then glaze over it to get that depth that you see in it. It takes a lot of work, but it’s worth it.

I’ll be continuing with this painting for the next several weeks until it’s finished.

The other thing I did today was finally complete the transition of my Rage painting from stretcher to panel. The effort it took to make these panels myself after dealing with all kinds of ordering issues, and then just show them, and then glue the canvas to the panel and paint the edges Was tremendous.

What I’ve learned from this is that at least for me the best substrate to paint on is a panel that I make myself.
